Catalina Island wedding,
My cousin married on Catlina Island last weekend. He has an 85 foot yacht called a fishing boat, which is what my sister's son called "an aquatic SUV on steroids": an appropriate description. The island is mostly a weekend getaway for people, and then a west coast yachter's only island option. There are some boats in a few of the harbors. Avalon is the only town because the whole island is mostly a preserve due to the foresight of Wrigley of Wrigley's gum, who had the vision to not allow development.
The weather was divine. Perfect temperature, as it seems to always be in southern California, cool nights, and colder ocean water than Florida or Nantucket. It was fun and scarey to jump off the bridge of the boat. The guys were doing it, as were a few of the young kids, so I took my chances.
I always get such mixed emotions being with my family. The dynamics are such that it inspires a lot of "shit" to come up for me. With that said, it was an amzing and wonderful four day weekend. we all stayed in Avalon in a small hotel and the party started on Thursday night. We all went out to dinner at one of the eateries. Friday night there was a BBQ on the beach by the casino and Saturday night was the wedding at The Catalina Island Country Club. On Friday morning a group of us walked to the Botanical Garden, and on Saturday we played on the beach with the children. The beach is a small strip of sand. We swam and played and jumped off the yacht for all the tiems inbetween.
I returned to Boston yesterday morning and spent an exquisite day with my neice in Hopkinton at my brother's place. My brother made clear to me in no uncertain terms that I was never tyo discuss Lee's work with him.... Too bad.... he will have a huge heating bill at his newly created home, when he was so close to the source, so that he could have no heating bill or little...
